Baroda’s 349 for 5 breaks World Record for Highest T20 Total in an Inning

Baroda shatters the world record by scoring 349 in the league match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy against Sikkim.

In a record-breaking outing, Baroda blistered over 349 runs as they registered the highest-ever team total in the history of T20 Cricket during the team’s clash against Sikkim in Indore on December 5, Thursday. Following this they surpassed Zimbabwe’s 344 against Gambia who previously held the record of highest ever team total in the shorter format of the game.

Krunal Pandya led Baroda elected to bat first against Sikkim at Indore. Shaswat Rawat & Abhimanyusingh Rajput set the tone with the bat as the duo was involved in a 92-run stand for the opening wicket with Abhimanyusingh bringing his fifty inside the powerplay before being dismissed by Roshan Kumar who broke the opening stand in the sixth over. Abhimanyu Singh was dismissed for 53 but his innings included four boundaries & five sixes with the damage being done. At the end of the Sixth over Roshan Kumar dismissed Shashwat with Baroda having 108 runs on the board at the end of the powerplay.

The flying start was further carried by Bhanu Pania & Shivalik Sharma. Both the batters were involved in a 94-run stand for the third wicket with Shivalik who was dismissed for 55 off 17 balls with his innings including three boundaries & 6 sixes. From there on Bhanu Pania launched his innings from the platform who was also engaged in an 88-run stand for the fourth wicket alongside Vishnu Vinod. Vinod was the third batter who got to his fifty before being dismissed. Later on Bhanu Pania went on to score a ton which was also his first hundred in white ball domestic cricket. Pania scored an unbeaten 134 off 51 balls which helped Baroda to put up a mounting score of 349 against Sikkim at the end of 20 overs.

Gujarat also struck the most number of sixes in the following match as a total of 37 sixes were scored surpassing Zimbabwe’s 27 against Gambia.

Chasing 350 was never going to be easy & it further got dismantled with Sikkim losing their three wickets inside the powerplay. Through the middle overs, Sikkim’s innings never took off following regular wickets at intervals who managed to score 86 runs at the end of 20 overs as Gujarat registered a commanding 263-run victory over Sikkim.

Bhanu Pania was rewarded with the Player of the match following his sublime knock of an unbeaten 134.
