England Completes Historic Feat, Becomes First team to Score 500,000 Runs in Test Cricket

England achieved a historic feat by becoming the first team to score half a million runs in test cricket.

England has become the first team in the red ball format to score 500,000 runs in Test Cricket. They registered this feat during the second test of the ongoing series against New Zealand.

On Saturday, the second day of the test between England and New Zealand, England accomplished this feat during their second innings, scoring a landmark 500,000 runs in the red-ball format. The second in the list is Australia who has scored 478,700 runs in the format followed by the Indian team who have racked over 278,700 runs.

The three Lions recorded this milestone in their 1083th test match and also have played the most matches in test cricket.

The inventors of the game also hold multiple records in the longer format of the game having scored the most number of centuries in the test format with 929 centuries followed by Australia with 592 centuries whereas the Indian side has scored 552 centuries.

The English side is currently on a tour to New Zealand for a three-match test series and headed into the second test match with a 1-0 lead. In the second test, England was bowled out for 280 with Harry Brook being the top scorer with 123 runs whereas Nathan Smith scalped a four-fer. The visitors were dominant with the ball as New Zealand were bowled out for 125 as both Gus Atkinson & Brydon Carse claimed four wickets each.

The visitors approached the second innings with a healthy lead of 155 runs & the top order provided a solid foundation with Ben Duckett & Jacob Bethell who were involved in a 187-run stand for the second wicket with both of them missing their centuries marginally after being dismissed in the 90s but had put the visitors in the commanding position.

A splendid start was further carried by ENgland’s middle-order batters in the form of Joe Root & Harry Brook who were involved in a 95-run stand for the fourth wicket before Brook was dismissed for 55.

In the same innings, Root recorded a milestone to his name as he became the fourth batter to record a century of 100+ 50 scores in test cricket.

England progresses to day three of the second test with a lead of 533 runs with skipper Ben Stokes & Joe Root at the crease with five wickets in hand.
