Yorkshire batter Harry Brook once again stole the spotlight as he scored his second consecutive century in the ongoing three-match test series between England & New Zealand.

England headed into the second test with a 1-0 lead. England were put into bat first ahead of the second test & the hosts capitalized on the conditions as England were struggling with 26 for 3 when Harry Brook came out to bat. Brook marched into the game high on confidence having scored 171 in his previous innings in the first test.

The English batter scored runs in an aggressive approach despite the team being in a difficult situation. Harry Brook was involved in a 174-run stand for the fifth wicket alongside Ollie Pope. The partnership helped England to cross the 200-run mark who had earlier lost their fourth wicket at a score of 43.

Harry Brook took on New Zealand scoring his century with a strike rate of over 100 who brought up his century off 91 balls. The right-handed batter smashed 123 off 115 balls, his innings included 11 sixes & five sixes with a strike rate of 106. Brook’s innings came to an end following an unfortunate run-out through Nathan Smith.

The Yorkshire batter enjoyed a remarkable year in 2024 as he became the only third batter after Yashaswi Jaiswal & Joe Root to complete 1000 runs in test cricket in 2024. He also recorded his highest test score earlier this year after scoring 317 against Pakistan during England’s tour to Pakistan.

Brook’s numbers in New Zealand are also eye-catching, he’s scored 623 runs in four matches with three centuries & two fifties to his name averaging 103.

Harry Brook has scored over 2225 runs in the red ball form but the majority of his runs have come away from home, he has played 1464 runs in 10 test matches averaging 91.

England were eventually bowled out for 280 with Harry Brook being England’s top scorer with 123 runs.

Later on, when the host came out to bat, England’s pacers put New Zealand on the backfoot with Brydon Carse who led the attack with two wickets. Kane Williamson had shown resilience throughout his innings before Brydon Carse dismissed the batter for 37. The day ended with New Zealand losing half of their side to the pavilion with 86 runs on the board with England dominating day one of the second test.
