The Lucknow Super Giants made the headlines in the 2025 IPL Mega auction after buying the dynamic Wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant for INR 27 CR. Pant became the most expensive player in the IPL’s history.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, the LSG franchise retained five players: Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Ayush Badoni, and Mohsin Khan. However, after Rishabh Pant’s addition, LSG did not slow down in the auction as they added David Miller, Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, Avesh Khan, Abdul Samad, and Aryan Juyal to their team.
Rishabh Pant was by far their costliest buy with Avesh Khan (Rs 9.75 crore) and Akash Deep (Rs 8 crore) a distant second and third respectively.
In need of Indian spinners on Day 2, Lucknow SuperGiants secured a like-for-like replacement for former vice-captain Krunal Pandya after buying Shahbaz Ahmed for a price of INR 2.4 Crore. They also enabled their Right-To-Match for the Windies pacer for INR 75 Lakh. Super Giants bagged South Africa batter Matthew Breetzke at his base price. While Joseph played for them last season, Breetzke represents Durban’s Super Giants in SA20.
With experienced players like David Miller and young talents like Abdul Samad, LSG is well-equipped to adapt to any match situation. Their focus on retaining a core group of players while bringing in impactful additions highlights their intent to go all the way to IPL 2025.
Interestingly, LSG now boasts five strong captaincy contenders. Pant, who previously captained Delhi Capitals, is a proven leader. Markram has an impressive track record, having led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to back-to-back SA20 titles. Pooran and Marsh bring international captaincy experience, while Miller has shown his leadership skills with Paarl Royals in the SA20 league. It’ll be interesting to see who leads the SuperGiants in IPL 2025.
