Rajasthan Royals had the smallest purse remaining going into the IPL 2025 Auction as they were in the market to acquire bowlers having retained six players with five being the batters.
The Rajasthan Royals under the new guidance of Rahul Dravid had retained their core in the form of Sanju Samson, Yashaswi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetymer & Sandeep Sharma.
Their auction buys reflected their strategy as they bought in the likes of the Sri Lankan spin duo of Wanindu Hasaranga whereas they also secured the English pacer Jofra Archer who was the late addition to the players’ list in the 2025 IPL Mega auction. Jofra Archer was the most expensive player throughout the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Later on day two of the auction- South Africa’s Kwena Maphaka & Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi added variety to their bowling options with both being left-arm pacers.
Rajasthan Royals who had a purse of INR 41 Crore going into the 2025 IPL Mega auction went after the Indian pacer Tushar Deshpande as he was the most expensive player on day two of the auction further strengthening their bowling line-up also buying Akash Madwal for a price of INR 1 Crore.
But it was India’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi who stole the spotlight as Rajasthan Royals secured the 13-year-old into their squad with a winning bid of INR 1.10 CR. His base price was Rs. 30 lakh, with Delhi Capitals making the opening bid. RR entered the fray at INR 35 lakh and eventually had the last laugh after securing the 13-year-old in their squad.
RR have plenty of match-winners and that, irrespective of where and who they play, will make them a dangerous outfit. But IPL seasons are often a test of endurance rather than a dash to the line, and their lack of squad depth, over two and a half months of high-octane action, is probably what might pull the Royals down. They could also have been shrewd in Archer’s bidding, given that purchase left them playing catch-up for almost all of the auction that followed. Following the purse being left out, The Royals could assemble only six overseas players to their squad.
