Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has officially appointed Omkar Salvi as the new bowling coach for their Men’s Team. The announcement came from Bengaluru on November 18, 2024, highlighting Salvi’s recent achievements, including titles in the Ranji Trophy, Irani Trophy, and the IPL. Salvi, set to join RCB in time for IPL 2025, will conclude his current commitments with the Indian domestic season beforehand.
Salvi’s coaching credentials were recently bolstered by his successful stint as the head coach of the Mumbai team during the 2023-24 season, leading them to their first Ranji Trophy in eight years and their 42nd overall. Before his role as head coach, he spent four fruitful seasons as the team’s bowling coach, establishing his reputation as a pivotal figure in the team’s success.
Mo Bobat, Director of Cricket for RCB, expressed his enthusiasm about bringing Salvi on board. “We’re thrilled to welcome Omkar Salvi as RCB’s Bowling Coach. With his extensive experience, especially in developing fast bowlers, and his proven track record at both the domestic and IPL levels, he’s the perfect addition to our coaching team. Omkar’s technical expertise and leadership will greatly benefit our squad and enhance our team environment,” Bobat said.
The appointment also marks a reunion for Salvi with Dinesh Karthik, who has been appointed as the team’s batting coach and mentor for the 2025 season. The two have previously collaborated in the IPL, bringing a wealth of experience and synergy to the team.
Looking ahead to the 2025 season, RCB is focused on building a robust team. They have retained key players such as Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal and are actively preparing for the IPL Mega-Auction scheduled to take place on November 24-25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
This strategic reinforcement in coaching comes at a pivotal time for RCB, following a challenging season last year where the team showed potential but often fell short in crucial matches. The addition of seasoned professionals like Salvi and Karthik is part of a broader strategy to refine the team’s approach, aiming to capitalize on the talents of its core players while enhancing overall performance to secure better outcomes in the IPL 2025.
