The 2025 IPL Mega Auction was a record-breaking spectacle, with players fetching the highest-ever bids, alongside a surprise pick that stole the spotlight. After a thrilling Day 1 filled with intense bidding, the excitement continued into Day 2, where teams aimed to complete their squads with final additions.
IPL 2025 Auction Day 2 Highlights:
Bhuvneshwar Kumar became the most expensive player of the day, with the veteran pacer being bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 10.75 crore. However, the most jaw-dropping moment came when 13-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi was bought by Rajasthan Royals for INR 1.10 crore, making him the youngest player ever to be picked in the IPL.
Day 2 also saw the end of an era, as two IPL legends went unsold. David Warner, who has been a fixture of the IPL since 2009, three times orange cap holder, and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson who claimed the orange cap in the 2018 season, both failed to find buyers. Warner, having retired from international cricket, didn’t find a place, while Williamson, a former captain, also went unsold. Additionally, fans were left disappointed as England’s James Anderson, never before part of the IPL, was not picked either.
Despite the surprises of Day 2, the biggest deals were sealed on Day 1. Shreyas Iyer’s whopping INR 26.75 crore acquisition by Punjab Kings stole the headlines, though that record was soon broken by Rishabh Pant who went to the Lucknow SuperGiants for a crashing INR 27 Cr, later Kolkata Knight Riders shocked everyone by spending INR 23.75 crore on Venkatesh Iyer, Day 2 of the auction further solidified the unpredictable nature of IPL, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the upcoming season.
