The IPL 2025 mega auction is in a couple of days which will take place on November 24 & 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It’s the second consecutive year the IPL auction is based out of India with the 2024 IPL auction which was based in Dubai.

The two-day auction is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm (IST). The 2025 IPL mega auction will clash with day three & day four of the first test between India & Australia. The 2025 IPL auction will be a ‘Mega Auction’ which takes place every three years. The last mega auction was held ahead of the 2023 IPL in which there were two new teams added in the form of Lucknow SuperGiants & Gujarat Titans to make it a 10-team tournament.

Players Retained by 10 IPL Franchise

Ahead of the 2025 Mega auction, The ten teams were allowed to retain as many as six players each team. The IPL 2025 Mega auction saw as many as 1574 players registering which were later shortened to 574 players. Out of the 574 players- 366 are Indian while the other 208 players are Overseas. With the franchises who would look to create a road path for the next couple of years- the Mega auction presents an opportunity that includes raw talent as well as Formidable players in all categories.

The history of the IPL auction traces way back to its inception in 2008 when the tournament first took place. The auction served as a platform for the teams to acquire not only domestic talent but also overseas players. The first IPL ‘Mega Auction’ took place in 2011 which was the turning point in the tournament’s history as teams were allowed to spend a large cap amount on players. The 2025 IPL mega auction will be the sixth edition of the ‘Mega auction in the tournament. The two-day extravaganza will see the shortlisted 574 players witnessing fates hang in the balance as all 10 teams battle it out in a high-octane contest for bragging rights.

Who is the Youngest Player in IPL’s Mega Auction?

Out of the 574 shortlisted players, the youngest player to register in the auction is the 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Bihar- player number 491 from the 68th set. While the Oldest player in the auction is the Veterian English placer none other than Jimmy Anderson who had recently retired from International Cricket. Heinrich Klassen was the most expensive overseas retained player after he was retained by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for a whopping amount of (INR 23 CR) while Virat Kohli was the most expensive retained player after being retained by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru for (INR 21 CR)

Punjab Kings (PBKS) head into the 2025 IPL mega auction with the most purse (INR 110 CR) who opted to retain only two of the players while Rajasthan Royals have the least purse and retained six players (INR 41 CR).

As the auction unfolds, all eyes will be on how the teams strategize to build competitive squads for the 2025 IPL season, shaping the future of the tournament.
