Abhimanyu Easwaran, a gifted right-handed opening batsman who was born in Dehradun on September 6, 1995, has advanced through the Indian cricket levels with steady success. Easwaran has continuously shown his batting ability in all formats while playing for Bengal in domestic games. In addition, he has demonstrated his leadership skills by capturing the Bengal Ranji team, India A, and India B (Duleep Trophy). Easwaran has also played for Prime Bank, one of Bangladesh’s top clubs, in the Dhaka Premier League, making him one of the few Indian players to do so.
With a Punjabi mother and a Tamilian father, Abhimanyu comes from a mixed heritage. In the year 2008, Abhimany’s father father chartered accountant Ranganathan Parameshwaran Easwaran established the Abhimanyu Cricket Academy to help his son pursue his cricketing goals. Abhimanyu relocated to Kolkata at the age of ten in order to further his cricket career. There, he trained under Nirmal Sengupta and went to Umes Chandra College.
Easwaran made his Twenty20 debut for Bengal during the 2016–17 Inter-State Twenty-20 Tournament on 31st January 2017. He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional performances, becoming Bengal’s leading run-scorer in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy with 861 runs in six matches. His consistent performances earned him a spot in India A’s squad for multiple series, including the Deodhar Trophy (2018–19, 2019–20) and the Duleep Trophy (2019–20), where he scored a brilliant 153 in the final against India Green.
Abhimanyu Easwaran has showcased remarkable consistency in his cricketing career. In First-Class (FC) cricket, he has played 101 matches, amassing 7,674 runs at an average of 48.87, including 27 centuries and 29 half-centuries, with a highest score of 233. In List A cricket, his 88 matches have brought 3,847 runs at an average of 47.49, featuring 9 centuries and 23 fifties, with a top score of 149. In T20s, Easwaran has scored 976 runs at an impressive strike rate of 128.59, with 1 century and 5 half-centuries, including a best of 107*. His contributions in the field are equally noteworthy, with 71 catches in FC, 27 in List A, and 9 in T20s.
Easwaran was included in India’s Test team for the home series against England in January 2021 as one of five standby players. Additionally, he was added as a backup for the England tour that followed and the ICC World Test Championship Final (2019–2021). His selection for the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy served as more evidence of his rising prominence in Indian cricket.
