His journey into the cricketing world began at the age of 4, when his father, Sanjeev, recognized his passion for the game and built a small playing area for him in their backyard. At 9, Vaibhav was enrolled in a local cricket academy in Samastipur, where he quickly outpaced his peers in terms of skill.

Vaibhav’s exceptional talent was evident early on when, at just 12 years old, he scored around 400 runs in five matches during the Vinoo Mankad Trophy for Bihar.

Vaibhav also featured in the India B U-19 squad for the Under-19 Quadrangular Series in Mulapadu, Andhra Pradesh, in November 2023, and played against Bangladesh, England U-19, and India A teams. This tournament was an essential trial for the youngster to make his spot secure for the Indian team for the ICC U-19 World Cup 2024.

Vaibhav’s performances in the Under-19 Quadrangular Series were a mix of highs and lows, with scores of 41 against England, a duck against Bangladesh, and eight against India A while opening the innings. These results weren’t enough to secure a place in the final squad. Nevertheless, he made a strong comeback, impressing the Bihar selectors at a U-23 selection camp, which earned him a spot in the state’s Ranji Trophy squad. At just 12 years and 284 days old, Vaibhav became the youngest Indian to make a first-class debut since 1986 and the second-youngest ever to feature in the Ranji Trophy for Bihar.

He debuted in first-class cricket during the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 season from January 5-8, 2024, against Mumbai. In five matches to date, Vaibhav has scored 100 runs in 10 innings, with a top score of 41, and has taken a wicket as a bowler.

His talent did not go unnoticed, and he earned him a spot in the India U-19 squad for the 2024 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup in the UAE. Where one of his standout performances came during his debut for India Under-19s in September 2024 in the Australia Under-19s tour of India, when he played a youth Test against Australia in Chennai. In that match, Vaibhav hit an astonishing 104 runs off just 62 balls maintaining a strike rate of 167.74 before being run out. His century, including five sixes and 14 fours, became the fastest ever by an Indian in youth Tests and the second-fastest overall, behind English cricketer Moeen Ali’s 56-ball century.

With his consistent performances and raw talent, a potential IPL selection is not far off, even if he isn’t picked by the teams, he has already made history by becoming the youngest player to be associated with the world’s biggest franchise tournament Indian Premier League, securing the 491st spot in the uncapped batter category set 9 with a base price of 30 Lakh.
